![]() ![]() I actually received the sword 9 days later and a free gift. I was a little discouraged when I got an email from Rick Lloyd apologizing and saying that there would be a slight delay because of a problem with the shipment and that I would receive the sword in 10-12 days. When I ordered this sword I was under the impression that it was in stock and since it was at the lowest price I could find and shipping was free so I went for it. I would also like to mention that I purchased this sword from. I can't wait to get some goza to try cutting real targets but for now I am definately satisfied with the cutting ability of this sword. I dismantled the sword and didn't find any shims and once it was back together it was nice and tight like new. The handle is very tight despite having only one mekugi. I tried cutting the two boxes and a few milk jugs and it cuts like a lightsaber. The same is not the best with very small nodes and it's so thin I can almost see the wood through it. The sageo is very poor quality and will definately be replaced. The only two things I was displeased with was the sageo and the same on the tsuka. Unlike my Shinto, it has a natural Hamon that is very different looking and I think I prefer it over the acid etched ones I've seen so many times before. I love this blade, it's not too heavy and has a polish similar to my old Hanwei Shinto. I know the steel fittings don't have a lot of gold accents except for the menuki and the shitodome however I don't prefer a lot of shiny stuff so I'm fine with that. I must say I owned a few Hanwei and Cold Steel Kats and this one is atleast on par with Hanwei and way above Cold Steel. The fit and finish on this katana is superb. I wanted a sword for tameshigiri and I wanted something a little different so I went with the same option. That is the main reason I picked this particular katana. Once I got it out of the two cardboard boxes and bubble wrap and the dark blue sword bag I really like the way it looked. Here's a link to the DF website if you want detailed specs.įirst off, this sword looks very nice. Would such a blade show hada? Or is this marketing BS with false pictures?ĭomo everyone! I think I have the technical answer to my question, and sorry if my wording was confusing.Just received my Dynasty Forge Bushi 1095 Tameshigiri Katana today so I thought I'd start a review of it. Getting my iaito out is good for some things (parts, furnishings, etc) but it's lacking hada and a real hamon.Īll of that to say, I see a lot of "folded k120" or "folded 1070" or whatever single steel they decided to use. I would like to use it as a teaching tool to show my students. I would like a piece that is at least kind of representative of the metallurgical history of the katana. ![]() While sword work is important in my art, very few instructors ever go beyond the bokken, largely because we do a lot of paired practice, and cutting is not required for testing.Ģ. ![]() Buy a sword so I can test the methods that I've been learning over the last 20 years, and make sure I'm doing it correctly.
