![]() ![]() I just swaged on eyes at each end of the torsion line. Also with the Selden gear, you do not need to buy all those 'adapters' for fast switching if you are not racing. Its a definitely a bit more of a reacher than a true code-0 so we have the bottom tack/swivel for it and top-down furl. For my purposes, picking up a used spinnaker that was in good shape and fit the measurements reasonably well has worked fine. I ended up going with the Selden gear a few years ago (cruising boat, not a racer) since with the right adapters it is suitable both for 'bottom up' and 'top down' furling. +1 on making sure you have a quality torsion cable. Might not be the right approach for everyone, but works well for me. From there, can dump the halyard and stuff the kite down the forward hatch. Can't fill, and can't go anywhere, thanks to the snuffer-line being through a block at the partners. The A2 ends up captured in its sausage and secure against the backside of the mast. When it's time to douse, I pull the snuffer down, easing the tackline and sheet as needed. When it's time to fly the kite I hoist the sock out of the forward hatch, pull the tack into position, raise the snuffer and sheet in, all from the cockpit. I also lengthened the ATN snuffer-line and run the two parts through a snatch-block at the base of the mast so that I can raise and lower the snuffer from the cockpit. When the wind goes aft far enough for the A2, I run a tack-line through a block on a bail at the front of my stem fitting and back to the cockpit from there. Close-reaching - the sweet spot for a code-0 - I simply run an extra jibsheet through a car on the rail and call it good. Yeah, I know a code-0 is not the same as an A-2, but a code-0 has a pretty narrow range of effectiveness for boats like ours, and given that neither of our boats is going to pop up on a plane anytime soon, an A-sail might be a more effective all-around weapon when the apparent goes aft. a random data-point: I singlehand (Ericson-32) with an A2 using an ATN snuffer. Can't speak to specifics of a furling code-zero, but. ![]()
